Education Ministry Extends NMMSS Application Deadline to November 15, 2026

What happened

The Education Ministry announced that the application deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026‑27 academic year has been extended to November 15, 2026 ^[4][13]. Students can submit applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) until that date ^[13].

Why it matters

The extension gives eligible students additional time to complete One‑Time Registration and submit their forms, helping reduce school dropouts after Class VIII and ensuring timely verification for scholarship disbursement ^[13][4]. Each year the scheme awards one lakh fresh scholarships to Class IX students who clear the selection test, with renewals available for Classes X‑XII ^[13][4].

What to watch

Applicants who have already submitted must ensure Institute Nodal Officer verification by November 30, 2026, and District Nodal Officer verification by December 15, 2026 ^[13][4][16]. They should also verify eligibility criteria such as 55 % marks in Class VII (55‑point relaxation for SC/ST) and parental income not exceeding Rs 3.5 lakh annually ^[13][4].
